For the promotion of Indonesian Studies

Latest

Hari Kemederkaan, Affiliation and Open Day

Halo semua! So much has been happening in the past couple of months so we thought we’d update you!

Hari Kemederkaan
First of all, Hari Mederkaan came to pass on August 17, and the Indonesian Embassy here in Canberra celebrated with a formal flag-raising ceremony at which over 250 invitees were in attendance! This was followed by a dinner at the Ambassador’s residence. You can read more about the event here.

Affiliation
We are excited to say that the ANU Indonesian Studies Association is now officially affiliated with the ANU Students Association (ANUSA). This will mean greater transparency and more funds for the ISA to advance the promotion of Indonesian Studies at ANU and around the country! Keep your eyes peeled for our launch event in the next couple of weeks!

Open Day
Finally, ANU Open Day was on Saturday 27 August. The skies were crystal clear and the sun shined down upon us as we talked to prospective ANU students about the benefits of studying Indonesian and Indonesia-related studies. We held a raffle to win a month’s supply of Mi Goreng, and the winner will be announced on here, and on our Facebook group shortly! Keep an eye out and good luck to all those who entered!

That’s all for now! Don’t forget that the LEAP Conversation Group meets up every Thursday at 6pm! Come along and improve your Bahasa Indonesia, make some new friends and enjoy some delicious Indonesian snacks. See you there!

What’s been happening at ANU

The last few weeks have seen some great Indonesian events at ANU. The highlight of this was when Marzuki Mohammad (aka Kill the DJ), founder of Jogja Hip Hop Foundation performed at the screening of the documentary about the group. This was part of the Regional Intersections film festival in conjunction with the National Film and Sound Archive which saw a number of other Indonesian films on display.

Upcoming events include ANU Asia-Pacific Week which applications have unfortuantely closed for and in the coming weeks a Wayang Kulit performance hosted by the Indonesian Embassy at the National Gallery (21st May 2-4pm)

Finally keep your eyes open for the latest edition of Monsoon which should be out soon and is sure to be a brilliant edition.

Hope to see you all at some of these great events!
