For the promotion of Indonesian Studies

Outreach

The Outreach Arm of the ANU Indonesian Studies Association is tasked with the creation of Outreach Programs: both in the local Canberra and Australian community, as well as in Indonesia. While programs are still in development there are big plans for the next year.

Local Community Programs

The ANU Indonesian Studies Association (ANUISA) has the goal of promoting Indonesian Studies within the ACT Community and fostering relations between ANU students and the Indonesian Community of Canberra.

The flagship outreach event for the Association is Indonesia Day. In conjunction with the Island Southeast Asian Department, Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia and a number of other groups, this event first held in 2010 sees hundreds of high school students from across Canberra gather to learn about Indonesian Studies and participate in cultural workshops. From dance to music to cooking demonstrations. This show is truly a showcase of Indonesia’s rich culture in a accessible format.
Partnership Programs in Indonesia

While more a long term goal than a current program, ANUISA is seeking to start a partnership program with a school in Central Java, Indonesia in order to give back to the community which has given so much to many Indonesian Studies Students from ANU.  Central Java is traditionally the home of ANU’s popular In-Country Programs which have seen hundreds of students for over two decades get a taste of Indonesian life.
